The city of Saqez is located in the northwest of Kurdistan province and is the second largest city of this province. Saqez is close to West Azarbaijan province and Bukan city from the north, Baneh city from the west, Marivan city from the south, and Divandareh from the east. It is also located near Iraq from the southwest. According to the last census conducted in 2015, the population of this city has reached 165,000 people, most of its inhabitants follow the religion of Islam and the Sunni religion and speak the Kurdish language with the Sorani dialect. Regarding the name of this city, it is said that this area was once the settlement of the Scythian people (one of the first peoples living in Iran in the millennia BC) and this city was called Sakzi or Sakez in ancient times.
The hill of Ziviyeh dates back to the first millennium BC and is located in Saqez city, Ziviye district, Ziviyeh village, and this work was registered as one of the national works of Iran on January 4, 1346 with registration number 762. Many valuable objects have been discovered from this ancient hill, all of which are located in the Museum of Ancient Iran.
This complex in the main center of the city contains remnants of the old bazaar lines of Saqqez, due to the construction of commercial centers in its vicinity, it is still considered as one of the main commercial centers of the city.
The existence of small islands inside the lake of this dam has created favorable conditions for the habitat of migratory birds and is very important in terms of bird watching. Also, the border of this dam and its villages are suitable places for tourists.
Two Minaret Mosque is one of the historical mosques of the Afshariya era of Saqez city, which is located in the neighborhood of Mian Qala and on the slope of the only historical hill in the city ( Narin Qala), and in fact, it is located in the old context of the city, on Imam Khomeini Street and behind Hosseiniyeh. According to local narratives, the building of the mosque dates back to the time of Sheikh Hassan Molan Abad, who was one of the famous mystics and mathematicians of the Afsharia period. Nader Shah Afshar passed through Saqez region while traveling to Baghdad. Sheikh Hassan Molan Abad requested a mosque for the people of Saqez city, Nader Shah Afshar also ordered the construction of this mosque in the old context of Saqez city. Currently, this mosque is known as Sheikh Hassan Mulan Abad Mosque among some residents of this region.
Sarshiw Saqez is one of the regions with good climate and beautiful villages and traditional architecture, which is located on the border of Iran and Iraq and is of interest to nature tourists who travel to this region every year in the spring season.
