Bijar, one of the cities of Kurdistan province, is the center of Bijar city and one of the oldest cities in Iran. In the past, Bijar was the center of Gros province. With 1,940 meters above sea level, this city is considered one of the highest cities in Iran. Bijar city is 770 meters higher than Tehran and 425 meters higher than Sanandaj. The distance between Bijar city and Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province, is 142 km and Tehran is 472 km. The city of Bijar is bounded from the north-west by Mount Nagareh Koob with a height of 2,210 meters, from the west by Mount Nesar with a height of 2,350 meters and from the southwest by Mount Badamestan with a height of 2,225 meters. Bijar is a mountainous region with a cold and dry climate.The population of this city is equal to 47,926 people based on the general population and housing census of 2013. The inhabitants of Bijar city speak the Surani Kurdish language with Grosi dialect, and in Bijar Gros region, they also speak Kalhari and Gorani dialects.
Timcheh Amirtoman is also known as Sarai Amir Toman, it is located on the west side of Bijar Bazaar. Dating back to the Safavid period, this timcheh was rebuilt and restored in the Qajar period. The one-story building of Timcheh was built using dry materials, bricks, and is one of the important commercial places of the city in the past. As a part of Bijar Bazaar, Amir Toman's Timcheh was registered in the list of national works of Iran on 27th of February 2000, with number 2591.
Timcheh Haj Shahbaz is located on the eastern side of Bijar Bazaar. This architectural work has a central covered space with cells around it. Arches, fittings and roof skylights are architectural features of this building. With an area of 450 square meters, this temple has two central entrances and 14 rooms in regular sides, and its materials are mostly stone, brick, mortar and plaster. As a part of Bijar Bazaar, Timcheh Haj Shahbaz was registered in the list of national works of Iran on 16th of February 2000, with registration number 2591.
Bijar protected area is located 15 kilometers northwest of Bijar city and southeast of Tekab, in Kurdistan province. With diverse vegetation, there are many rivers and springs in this area. Qezel Ozen River is one of the most watery rivers in Kurdistan province and flows in this area. Qamchagha River, like Qezal Ozen, is one of the natural rivers of this area. Haj Zagheh Si, Kale Shir, Seyed Shahab and Qara Balag springs are among its most important springs, which are vitally important for the wildlife of this region in summer and autumn. More than 30 species of mammals, 140 species of birds and 20 species of reptiles have been identified in this area.
